Casting News: Quentin Tarantino’s ‘The Hateful Eight’

The Hateful Eight

Quentin Tarantino is gearing up for his eighth film ‘The Hateful Eight’ which is targeting release for some time next year. Tarantino is filming in 70mm so we can be sure that all the blood and guts will look incredible. Many of the plot details have been kept under raps, but we’ve found a brief synopsis of the film which looks to be set after the American Civil War…

‘In THE HATEFUL EIGHT, set six or eight or twelve years after the Civil War, a stagecoach hurtles through the wintry Wyoming landscape. The passengers, bounty hunter John Ruth (Russell) and his fugitive Daisy Domergue (Leigh), race towards the town of Red Rock where Ruth, known in these parts as “The Hangman,” will bring Domergue to justice. Along the road, they encounter two strangers: Major Marquis Warren (Jackson), a black former union soldier turned infamous bounty hunter, and Chris Mannix (Goggins), a southern renegade who claims to be the town’s new Sheriff. Losing their lead on the blizzard, Ruth, Domergue, Warren and Mannix seek refuge at Minnie’s Haberdashery, a stagecoach stopover on a mountain pass. When they arrive at Minnie’s, they are greeted not by the proprietor but by four unfamiliar faces. Bob (Bichir), who’s taking care of Minnie’s while she’s visiting her mother, is holed up with Oswaldo Mobray (Roth), the hangman of Red Rock, cow-puncher Joe Gage (Madsen), and Confederate General Sanford Smithers (Dern). As the storm overtakes the mountainside stopover, our eight travelers come to learn they may not make it to Red Rock after all…’

Worked with Tarantino back in 2007 on Death Proof. He’ll be playing a bounty hunter.

Jennifer Jason Leigh

Jennifer Jason Leigh

A wonderful actress that often flies under the radar but she has a prolific back catalogue of performances including The Machinist, and Synecdoche, New York. She’s down to play a fugitive here.

Walton Goggins

Walton Goggins

Walton Goggins had a small role in Tarantino’s last western flick Django Unchained and is set to play a ‘southern renegade’ who poses as a sheriff. Could be a lot larger role for him this time.

Demain Bichir

Demain Bichir

Demain Bichir is another new comer who will play the owner of a men’s clothing store.
Tim Roth

Tim Roth

One of Tarantino’s favourites, its exciting news to have Englishman Tim Roth on board who also featured in Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction.  He’ll hopefully be playing a sinister Hangman here.

Michael Madsen

Michael Madsen

Who could forget Madsen’s incredible performance as Mr. Blonde in Reservoir Dogs, and The Hateful Eight couldn’t come at a better time for the actor who recently appeared on the UK’s reality show Big Brother. This will be Madsen’s third time working with Tarantino after memorable performances in the Kill Bill films. He’s set to play a ‘cow-puncher’, which could be an out of work cowboy.

Bruce Dern

Bruce Dern

He’ll be playing a Confederate general.
Channing Tatum

Channing Tatum

Finally is the announcement that pin-up Channing Tatum has been cast in an unknown role. He’s a big name to have on board so expect him to play a crucial role in the Hateful Eight. This could be perfect timing for the actor who has been recently typecast in comedy/action flicks after the success of 21 Jump Street.

That’s all for now! We will keep you updated on any further developments.
